Summer Adventures and New Work

Although I like to think I'm an artist every hour of every day, there are a lot of other things going on in my life this time of year. I've still had plenty of time to work on a bunch of little watercolors and one great, big oil painting, but in other news...

Among the crazy things I got myself into for spring was the North Face Endurance Challenge Series races at Mount Wachusett over the weekend of June 10th and 11th. I signed up for a trail half marathon (13.1 miles) without even examining the course map first. Turns out we runners were bound for the summit of the mountain ... TWICE!

Starting at the base of the ski slope the course wound its way around the slopes before sending us all up a steep rock scramble to a very welcome aid station on top. Then it was down into the woods for another ramble before climbing that same steep bit once more. Far and away, this was the toughest race I have ever run. It was hot, steep, rocky and rolling - and it took me three and a half hours. But I had a blast!! All estimates of time, pace and lofty goals went out the window in favor of rock-hopping, zooming down fire roads, slogging uphill and chatting with other enthusiastic runners (sap-sad downers got left in the dust - not sorry). I was so excited to get through it all that I finished up with a sprint across the line.

In between training runs leading up to the race on lovely local trails I managed to paint several new White Mountain Minis and a grand cloudscape scene (see the timelapse video of that painting in my last post). Every one of them makes me want to go for a hike.

I'm also slowly updating my shop with works that are available, though some new pieces have been snapped up right away. Check out the gallery and if you love a piece of art, make it yours!
