"Outcrop II," 8x8 inch framed oil on panel painting

This painting is on display at the Pope Memorial Library in North Conway, New Hampshire through June 2024. Stop by the library to see and acquire it. A portion of all sales go directly to the Library!

Even when we reach the highest ridge, the summit of the mountain, we feel compelled to climb up the last rock outcrop; that last nub of craggy granite from which we can survey our accomplishment. It's a deep seated instinct to be in high places. This painting depicts just such a rocky outlook along Franconia Ridge in the White Mountains on New Hampshire. The day was hazy and the light was slanting just so. The carpet of forests stretched out in all directions to be admired from this airy vista. This is a smaller version of a large oil on canvas I made of this scene. I decided to add a figure here, so you feel like you could walk into the painting and sit with them.
